zeit im bild (2006)

The summer of 2006 brought us mega events by TV. At the same time we got new media to enjoy them. To be precise, we know soccer images only in HDTV quality since this year’s world cup. Every detail was recorded and a huge amount of information was broadcasted from the soccer stadiums in all the living rooms of this planet. Unfortunately, up to now there are not many adequate and affordable recording devices. Hence, in moments of nostalgia, the budget consumer must rely on her/his memory alone. The soccer world cup 2006 is an interesting example to demonstrate what gets finally stuck in our minds. All the details of the images, e.g. the colorful jerseys, do certainly play a less important role. In fact, it is a single movement that remains, for which we never needed HDTV, since the details were afterwards provided verbally. Therefore, I think that the superfluous high resolution must be decreased, and the available space should be dedicated to time and the subtle gestures in and of the image.
On November 2, 2006, the computer hardware store Megacycle in Karlsruhe moved to a new location and celebrated the reopening with it’s business partners. For the reception, I was invited to set up the installation zeit im bild in the new shop. As you can see in the documentation on the left, zeit im bild proves: no headbuts this time.

zeit im bild was programmed with PD and GEM
